There's WHAT in my food?!?!

Sofia Vergara..I <3 her!

So, I'm sitting here watching Dr. Oz and he's talking about nasty habits and unexpected "extras" found in canned/ processed foods.
A couple of items he mentioned were:

-Canned Mushrooms
-Hard Candies
-Canned Tomato Sauce

Pretty normal stuff, right?
But according to the specialist guest starring on the show, there's more than you would EVER expect to be in your food...in your food.

In the canned mushrooms, he said there could be remnants of maggots and even maggot eggs!! Alot of the time, they are cooked down during the canning process, but STILL...maggots???
What's even MORE disgusting is that he said that the secret ingredient in hard candies is the anal glad juice of beavers, known as castoreum. He says that the juice is used to "enhance" the flavor. o_0 <- the face i made.
Lastly, in the tomato sauce, he said there are fruit fly eggs which wasn't really surprising to me because fruit flies would lay their eggs on the fruit/vegetable..and since it probably isn't MANDATORY to properly sterilize fruits/vegetables before production in factories, it's not too surprising. Chances are, if you've ever eaten ANY fruit or vegetable without washing it off first, you've ingested THOUSANDS upon MILLIONS by now.

Some other strange ingredients I can give you off the dome are crushed bugs in red food coloring, sheep in bubble gum, beef fat in processed snack cakes and pig in Skittles.
It's soooo gross when you think about it...but on the other hand, we've been eating it this whole time with no problems..lol

What do you think about these "secret" ingredients in our foods??

Sunday Self Inspiration: Encouraging Words for College Students

BeautifulBrwnBabyDol just posted this video a couple of days ago, and when I saw the title I IMMEDIATELY thought, "Oh my gosh, this is PERFECT!"
She talks about her college experience and gives a lot of words of wisdom in terms of getting the most out of your own experience. Watching this made me realize that I can do more, as a student, to elevate myself and get myself on the road to success. This video ALSO made me turn the mirror on myself and allowed me to relate to her story of going from a low GPA to a high one, and joining clubs and organizations to gain support from fellow classmates.
So if you ARE in college and you need that extra boost, whether you're fresh out of H.S. or a 45 year old mother, feel free to check out this video because it's really an eye opener.
Have a blessed day!

Bentonite Clay Hair Mask Adventures...

So, Friday was "You need to wash your damn hair, Kayla" day. LMAO
I was trying out my Bentonite clay mask on my hair to cleanse my scalp.
I didn't measure it because I wasn't quite certain how much I would need for my hair...
...but I assume that I used a whole plastic bowl full.
I mixed it with ACV [apple cider vinegar] because mixing it with water either leaves it too lumpy, or too watery.
I'm not sure if that affects the pH of the Bentonite and the overall result of the cleansing, but if any of you know, please don't hesitate to share!

For those who don't know:
Bentonite Clay is a natural detoxifying agent made from volcanic ash that magnetically attracts toxins, break down waste matter, and rejuvenates damaged tissues and cells to promote healthy growth.

This was the bentonite in my hair...

I left this  on my hair for about 20-30 minutes and then rinse it out with warm water. I read that you aren't supposed to let it completely dry on your hair....so it was still pretty pasty when i rinsed it out.
Once I rinsed it out, I immediately noticed how it elongated my curls and left my hair surprisingly soft!

UNFORTUNATELY...

...I followed up w/ a protein treatment using eggs and Hello Hydration and was so busy jamming to my music in the shower that I didn't realize how hot I had the water when I was shaving and  BASICALLY wound up w/ a slight case of breakfast head. -__-
I mean, it wasn't ALOT..not as much as I thought it'd be, but I was SOOO pissed.
I was standing in front of the mirror for about an hour w/ a wet washcloth goin H.A.A.M on my curls to get the egg out..but it came out pretty easily...with a lil elbow grease. ;)
So yall will get pics next time!
I plan on doing it again next week just for the sake of taking before/after pics
Stay tuned!
;)
